The WUBurger Design
This summer I've had the privilege to design WUBurger, a burger joint on 880 Main Street in Woburn, Massachusetts. Owners, Deepak Diwan and Kal Gullapalli had a vision of transforming the present restaurant Mr. Charlies, into a hip hangout for local families, students, or anyone who enjoys some good old-fashioned comfort food. Except this time, there would be a twist. Deepak and Kal set out to create convenient food but made FRESH and cooked with a good conscience.
With a community-welcomed chalkboard and discounts for commuters, their mission was to create an ambiance that felt as familiar and timeless as The Max at Bayside, the Peach Pit, or even Arnold's from Happy Days! For the design we wanted to reflect this nostalgic look except stay consistent with their message, "Fresh and Clean." We drew inspiration from this by adding subway tile and quartz counters for a streamlined look, bright white for complete exposure, acrylic vintage prints with a pop-of color and funky neon graphics...everything had a touch of comforting sentiment yet with a modern twist, just like their top-selling item, the WUBurger itself!
Thank you to Mary Ann Moisan for all of your wonderful graphics and creativity. Thank you to Abe for your exceptional carpentry/painting. Thank you to the WUBurger Staff and most importantly, thank you to Deepak and Kal for giving me this opportunity. It's been a complete blast (from the past!).
